What is the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS)?A section of the Dental for Schools (DFS) program operates through the Medicare Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS), which is a child dental grant that provides eligible children and teenagers aged between 2 and 17 up to $1000 for basic dental, capped over 2 consecutive calendar years. The dental benefit amounts are payable to Dental Practitioners for services rendering and eligibility of the cover are set by the Department of Human Services and not by Dental for Schools. To be eligible for the CDBS children must: Be aged between 2 and 17 years on any day of the calendar year Receive, or their family, parent or guardian must receive, certain government benefits (such as Family Tax Benefit Part A) for at least part of the calendar year to be eligible for Medicare. Dental for Schools endeavours to ensure that information given to you is clear and concise this is stipulated in the DFS Consent form.

What if my child is not eligible for CDBS?If your child is not eligible or has used their grant, Dental for Schools may have something in place for these circumstances in which then you should fill out your consent form and we can check eligibility for you alternatively contact the Dental for Schools Office at (08) 722 58 142 – providing your details.

Is there a cost involved?This will depend on your child’s eligibility under the CDBS. If you are unsure please fill out the form and we will let you know what your status is. However, in the event you are not eligible there will be a small gap charge for a full examination, professional clean and fluoride treatment. If your child requires further treatment, you can still utilise our discounted services as treatment prices are pre-set by the Department of Health and Human Services and no additional charges are added or imposed.

What kind of dental treatment can my child receive?Every child is different, benefits will cover a range of extensive services such as examinations, cleaning, fissure sealing, bitewing x-rays and additionally fillings, extractions and more if required. These additional services can only be given with your consent and are not provided without your consent.

Do I have to attend the visit?No, you are not required to attend. Our bubbly team of experts will ensure your child is comfortable and enjoy their dental experience. However, you are more than welcome to attend the visit; to attend simply give us a call prior to the visit and book in a appointment.

Is there a cost?No, there is no cost to your school.

How are students collected from class? Do we need to assign an SSO?We do not require any staff to assist us with collecting students. One of our capable staff will collect students from their class room to take them to their dental visit. You are still welcome to assign your own SSO. We generally start with lower years and work away up.

What administration can my school expect to complete?Our team manages all paperwork, printing, logistics and can field any parent enquiries. All your school has to do is hand out our consent forms and collect them again in our handy pre-packaged form envelopes.

Is there a minimum requirement to have the dental visit?In order to meet demands we require a minimum of 15 students for a visit to be viable for your school.

Do you require a classroom or a space?A mobile dental van/truck is fitted out similar to that of a dental practice, this is to make things convenient for your school as well as to meet our infection control requirements. Prior to the visit we will have organized a parking allocation that works with the space of the school. The mobile dental van/truck will require a local power point within 30 meters. No water required. They even have a waiting bay for children to sit and relax and play a selection of great age appropriate movies. All clinics are designed to create a stress free and relaxing experience.

What clearances do DFS staff carry?The Dental for Schools team travel with, DCSI clearances, Police checks, RAN certifications and Catholic clearances. This is provided prior to our visit.
